Leave from the Marlin Marina ‘A’ Finger in Cairns at around 9 am, after you finish checking in to the ferry at the Reef Fleet Terminal (Please check into the reef terminal by 8.15 am). The fast catamaran trip takes a mere 45 minutes to reach the spectacular Fitzroy Island, giving you five whole hours to discover the beauty of this tropical haven.
Fitzroy Island is part of the 600 continental islands of the Great Barrier Reef, which was attached to the mainland before it was separated by rising waters. Over time, a coral reef flanked the island and provided refuge to a variety of corals and fish. This high-speed catamaran takes only 45 minutes along the calm coastal waters, where you can absorb the breathtaking scenery features as you whiz past them.
There is a beach hire hut on the island that offers a huge range of equipment for snorkelling. You can also take advantage of the paddle ski kayaks and a giant ocean trampoline here to enjoy your day out in the pristine waters of the island. You may even wish to book yourself on a glass bottom boat tour, if you want to explore the corals without getting wet.
Snorkelling is an exhilarating activity that is especially popular with Fitzroy Island visitors, but you can choose to do other activities as well.
