Dandenong Ranges Tours

If fairies were real (and who says they’re not!), they would be living here, in the Dandenongs! The low mountain landscapes of the Dandenong Ranges – which are located only 35 kms from Melbourne – are punctuated by the 633-metre high Mount Dandenong. The scenery of the area is simply stunning, with undulating emerald hills, rugged cliffs and valleys and lush temperate rainforest gullies. Walking through the tall strands of Mountain Ash trees, with thick ferny undergrowth is like stepping back into a land that time forgot. Amazing, when you consider the proximity of the Dandenongs to the city!

Whether you visit the area in the colourful warmer seasons, or during winter, when you might be greeted by snow-covered vistas, the Dandenongs and surrounds are perfect all year long. The local villages and towns – including Olinda, Belgrave and Sassafras – offer cute cafés, quaint boutique stores, art galleries, markets and other attractions, but each one looks best from the heights of Mount Dandenong itself – especially at twilight!

The best way to get around is on the historic Puffing Billy steam engine, which offers an experience that will delight young and old equally. You can choose to dangle your legs off the side of the steam train as it meanders through the forest, or you can relax in first class and watch the scenery from within the comforts of luxury. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life, there’s no better pace than the Dandenongs to relax, unwind and surround yourself in paradise!
